I’ve noticed a lot of city restaurants switching to “eco-friendly” bottled water systems (including where I work) that purify filtered tap water and offer it to guests under the auspices of traditional “bottled” water.  I realize the environmental benefits of these systems but I get the feeling that a lot of places are not forthcoming about what the product really is.  Let’s face it, waiters don’t want to start the meal with that awkward convo.  Last night, I went to a restaurant in Soho that charged $7 bucks a bottle for water that was essentially just glorified tap run through a carbon filter (read: Brita) and a special UV ray treatment (oooh Star Trek!) and then poured into a reusable bottle.  I think it won’t be long before restaurants are exposed for gouging on the faux-bottled water.

How about no refills on soda’s out of the gun?

I haven’t worked a place with soda refills for a while…but I’m always surprised when a couple of (usually) younger folks wonder why, while looking at the check, I didn’t tell them in advance that there were no free refills - like, why would I? “Excuse me, would you like another diet coke, and oh, by the way, it’s not free” - How rude would THAT be?!

Wow..A tapped battle water..That sounds weird..I was surprised for that..

is gouging for filtered water any different than gouging for bottled “spring water”. I mean 7-8 dollars for water if it comes from France or Norway or NYC is still sticking it to the people.
